FAITH IN ACTION SATURDAYS

Faith In Action is a monthly event where we feed and provide to those who are in need in our community. We offer a sit down lunch, take out, food pantry (meeting additional needs other than food as well), prayer, Community Partner Program (where we help people get signed up for government assistance programs) and a whole lot of love. This program is a work in progress and we continue to build on what we offer as we see the needs.

BACKPACK PROGRAM

FUMC Gladewater, partnering with East Texas Food Bank, is committed to providing 50 backpacks to Gladewater children beginning in the Fall. These backpacks will go home with the children on Fridays so that they will have food over the weekend. We will need volunteers to help our coordinator, Jeannie Hanssen, pack them each week or deliver to the school. Backpacks can be sponsored at $162.00 a piece for the year and can be paid all at once or in increments as your funding is available.

HANDS IN SERVICE (H.I.S.)

Hearts In Service is a group from our church that seeks to meet needs for those who are unable in our congregation and community. We can do everything from cleaning and changing lightbulbs to home repair and construction. If You know of someone in need, please contact the Church Office or Cassie Roberts or Nancy Edwards.

NEW GATE MISSION

We volunteer through out the year at New Gate Mission in Longview, TX. We have groups that go over a prepare breakfast for the people in need in the community. We’ll be posting a schedule below to help you keep up with when those dates are. Please contact Lois Reed for more information.

ADULT SUMMER MISSION TRIP

Every summer we take an adult (high school sophomores and up) mission trip. We have been doing this for many years now. Our first year we went to Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico in 2009 and worked on a parsonage for one of the United Methodist Churches there. Since 2010 we have gone to Spirit Lake, North Dakota, an Indian Reservation of the Dakota Sioux Indians at the Spirit Lake Ministry Center. There we work on houses of the reservation in need, help with the ongoing project of building a ministry center there, and engage the children on the reservation through Sidewalk Sunday School. We see this trip as an extension of our Kingdom Building call and as a training ground for learning what it looks like to be on mission building the Kingdom here when we return. We look forward to this journey of faith every summer. Look for more information here about dates, payment plans, and fundraiser that will help support our trip.

COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING DINNER

Beginning in 2009, we started hosting an annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner for those who are hungry or lonely during the holiday. We host this at our Christian Life Center on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

MANNA HOUSE

We have several adults who volunteer at our local food bank, Manna House, regularly. Our church is also responsible for collecting Green Bean Donations every month. Donations can be dropped off at the Church Office or in the Narthex before worship.

GLADEWATER FAITH HOUSING

Our church has been involved in Habitat building projects for years in our community. Several years ago, due to rules and restrictions of Habitat, our community moved a different direction with the same idea in mind. Gladewater Faith Housing builds houses for those who are deserving and in need as as funds are available and needs are evaluated. Look for information regarding new projects.
